  1. Cowboy Two Step "Chablis and Me": Bob Willis and his western swing band brought down home the big band jazz excitement of Chicago and Harlem and fiddlized it into a musical sound that just won’t wear out. Now the Cowboy Two Stop is plainly the most common and most popular Texas dance and once you master it you can hod your own in any Texas honky tonk.

  2. Western Waltz "Mirror Waltz": There’s line in a popular song that says when you fall in love everything’s a waltz. Well the waltz is sure a favorite of lovers everywhere. European immigrants brought the waltz to Texas and the range hands immediately modified the stiff stylized European movements to more readily express their free-spirited style. But for sure whether in the ballroom or the honky tonk, the Western Waltz is for lovers.

  3. Four Corners "Funny Farm": The Four Corners is a line dance that gained popularity in the 50s. There are several variations baring such names as the cold sweat, bus stop and the slide. This is a dance originated by girls frustrated by the lack of partners for the fast dancing. The Four Corners proved to be so much fun for the wallflowers that soon the cowboys joined the line. Today the Four Corners is a Texas tradition.

  4. Schottische "Schottische": Early German settlers gave us two great Texas traditions: the Schottische and a taste for beer, both of which are natural for the honky tonk dance hall. The taste of beer don’t need no explainin’ but the Schottische could use a little guidin’ into. The Shottische often follows immediately after the Cotton-Eyed Joe and sometimes is done as a line dance. But it is partner dancin’. With it’s slide stagger followed by a skip step. They claim the beer helps the stagger and the skip.
